Common Spring Pests And How To Keep Them Out

Home » Pest Control » Common Spring Pests And How To Keep Them Out

Spring is around the corner, so you cannot neglect the chaos associated with it, especially when the pests resurrect. The temperature during this period comes with different pests such as stinging insects, mice, ants, spiders, termites, and rats.  These insects become more active due to sunshine and warm weather.

Now, you have the opportunity to learn about these spring pests, the havoc they can cause, and how you can control them.

Spring Pests And Associated Control Measures

●       Stinging Insects

Bee and wasp are the common stinging insect that becomes active during spring. After they must have hibernated during winter, they leave the wall voids, searching for a suitable place to build their colonies. It is your duty not to allow these insects to lay eggs in your home. This is because their stinging can be painful.

The ideal way to prevent insects from establishing themselves in your compound is by treating your environment. If you notice any signs of bees or wasp, you should endeavor to redirect them to a safe location far from your apartment.

●       Ants (Carpenter & Pavement)

Ants are of two types; the carpenter and the pavement ants. The carpenter ants come out mostly when there are warm temperatures. You can find them inside or outside of your apartment or build their living space in wood.

On the other hand, the pavement ants usually live in the soil. However, they move anywhere when they need to get food. They can pounce on any food, even those that are edible for humans. To prevent ants from invading your home, preserve your food items properly and leave leftovers on the floors.

Also, check wooden materials regularly to ensure they are in good shape. If not, take them away from your home.

●       Houseflies

This is one of the most difficult pests you can find in your home. You can hardly explain how they find their way to your room, but it usually happens when you open the door. The best way to control houseflies is to always shut the door. Keeping the door close always might not be possible, but never leave the door open for long.

●       Rats and Mice

Rats and mice are available throughout the year. They can destroy anything in your home if they have their way. Block holes and possible routes that they can pass through. These rodents can smell from a distant location. Therefore, your food item should be kept in non-penetrable containers.

●       Spiders

Spiders prefer to stay in areas that are hardly used by the resident, including garages and basements. You might not get to see a spider until it needs to look for food. You will know a spider is in your apartment when it sprouts cobweb at rare locations.

Some spiders’ bites can be harmful to children, so you may need to be watchful to keep them away from your family. However, never kill them because of that. They are helpful for your home. They are natural predators and thereby provide a natural way of controlling other insects.

●       Fleas

Pets are the primary agent of fleas in any home, especially dogs. But sometimes, fleas do come from unknown places. However, you can control your home pet from harboring fleas by treating and bathing them regularly. Also, you can minimize the chances of invasion by wildlife fleas by getting household cleaning materials for regular sanitation.

If you can’t do it by yourself, seek help from professionals to clean your entire apartment.

Conclusion

Prevent pests’ invasion this spring by taking the necessary steps to clear existing colonies or using the proper pest control measures. If you wish to treat your home, you can do this by yourself or consult experts who understand what it requires to keep your environment clean.
